Roger Flinn, 46, told a Wood County Circuit Court he did not kill Russell Ray Eastham and Eastham's girlfriend Sylvia L. Fittro in 2005.
Taking the stand in his own defense, he said his nephew, Daniel Neptune was the shooter.
Flinn claims he and Neptune had been drinking beer throughout that evening, admitting he was upset because family members were going to stop usage of a food stamp card.
Flinn claimed he never purchased a gun from Neptune, as Neptune testified, saying "I have never shot a handgun before."
Flinn said he thought he and Neptune were going to Connections Bar on State Route 5 near Elizabeth, but Neptune decided to go to the victim's residence on Rt. 14.
Flinn testified it was Neptune who kicked in the door, confronted Eastham. shot him and his girlfriend.
"I was in shock," Flinn said. "I was heading back out to the truck when I heard two more shots."
When Neptune began driving up a rural road, tossing the gun, Flinn said he feared for his life.
"I thought I was going to die," he said.
Flinn said he had a confrontation with Russell Eastham a few weeks earlier. Family members testified Flinn had Eastham by the neck against a wall and that Eastham was planning to file assault charges against Flinn.
When asked by White if he had shot Eastham and Fittro, Flinn replied, ''No, I did not.''
Flinn's attorney said there was no evidence in this case other than Neptune's testimony, that Flinn committed the murders.
"Daniel Neptune is their entire case," he said, noting there was no physical evidence showing Flinn as the shooter.
The trial continues today.
