Opal Tawney, 90, of Left Hand, Roane County, WV died Sunday, August 12, 2001, in Roane
General Hospital, Spencer, WV after a short illness.
She was born May 15, 1911, at Left Hand, a daughter of the late Harley Everett and Lizzie
Mancel Trout Nester. She was a homemaker, a member of the Linden, WV Chapter No. 152,
Order of the Eastern Star, the House of Prayer, Left Hand, and the Tri-County Senior Citizens,
Newton, WV.
Survivors include her husband, Clement L. Tawney of Left Hand; three sons and
daughters-in-law, Jerome and Betty Tawney of Cross Lanes, WV; Kenneth "Doc" and Pauline
Tawney of Loris, SC; Jack and Francis Tawney of Garner, NC; one daughter and son-in-law,
LaMoine and Bud King of Left Hand; a brother, Arnold Nester of Houston, Texas; 12
grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son, two granddaughters and a
sister.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, August 15 at 11:00 a.m. in the John H Taylor
Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Reverend Harold Hall officiating. Burial will be in the Clover
Cemetery, Clover, WV. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
