Some West Virginia motorists who live in border areas may be crossing into other states next year to fill up their gas tanks.
State Tax Commissioner Virgil Helton said the gasoline tax will jump four-and-a-half cents to eleven cents a gallon January First.
WV motorists will be paying just shy of 50 cents per gallon in both state and federal taxes.
Governor Manchin froze last year's scheduled increase to offset the spike in gas prices caused by hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
Manchin doesn't plan to block the upcoming increase.
The $63 million dollars expected to be generated from next year's higher rate will help shore up the State Road Fund.
The hike makes West Virginia eleventh in the nation for total gas taxes, up from 18th, according to the American Petroleum Institute.
