ROANE OFFICERS SEIZE $2.4 MILLION IN MARIJUANA - 1,172 Plants Harvested From The Peter Cave Area

(08/11/2001)
The Roane County Sheriff's Office and State Police have seized $2.4 million in marijuana from patches in the Peter Cave area, off Barcut Road in Roane County.

The patches were found after a search stemming from a tip, coming from Boone County to Sheriff Todd Cole's office. The Spencer State Police Detachment had also received the same tip, according to Cole.

James Osborne and Brenda Hill, both 44 and both from the Peter Cave area have been arrested and charged with manufacturing a controlled substance. The couple lived on the property where the 1,172 plants ranging in height from 6 to 16 feet were harvested.

It took officers about 6 hours to harvest the plants, growing in several different plots on the property. Officials say this was the largest amount of marijuana seized in a single case in Roane County.

Osborne and Hill were arraigned Tuesday by Magistrate Denver Gandee. Bail was set at $15,000 each and was posted on Wednesday. Preliminary hearings are set for August 17.
