Don Blankenship struck out, spending over $2 million dollars to oust a host of Democrats in the WV Legislature.
Voters largely ignored his campaign "For The Sake Of The Children" to swing the advantage to the GOP.
Based on late returns, at least 24 House Democrats targeted for defeat by the Massey Coal chief survived their races, while 22 of the GOP challengers he aided fell short.
In the end just one of the incumbent Democrats targeted by Blankship's group, 15th District Delegate Margarette R. Leach, lost her bid for reelection.
Three Republican incumbents who had Blankenship's support, 16th District Delegate Greg Howard, 44th District Delegate Cindy Frich and 46th District Delegate Debbie Stevens went down to defeat.
Just two non-incumbent Republicans who had Blankenship's support managed to win election to the House on Tuesday. Carol Miller won over Leach by 247 votes in the 15th District, and Jonathan Miller defeated Jerry Burton in the 53rd District.
