NINETY CAST EARLY BALLOTS

(10/27/2006)
About 90 Calhoun citizens have cast early ballots during the first week of early "no excuse needed" voting, according to Calhoun County Clerk Richard Kirby.

The ballot is short for the off-year election, with only a handful of races and the local library levy.

"Voter turn-out is unfortunately expected to be low," said Kirby.

The principal contests are between incumbent Shelly Moore Capito (Republican) and challenger Mike Callahan (Democrat) for Congress and incumbent Robert C. Byrd (Democrat) and John Raese (Republican) for US Senate.

Early voting will continue next week.
