OLD CALHOUN HIGH ON THE BLOCK AGAIN

(10/06/2006)

Old Calhoun County High School, long-touted because of its historic presence, architecture and native cut stone construction, is on the market again, seeking a fourth owner since the building was sold at auction several years ago.

Dr. Charles Folashade, the current owner from Maryland, purchased the building through an eBay auction from the Richards family for about $160,000.

The owner recently placed the building back on eBay, but has now listed the structure with Farmhouse Realty.

Folashade has presented different ideas he has had for its use, including the possibility of a nurse's training satellite facility, a residential housing facility and a hunting lodge.

Folashade told Grantsville councilman Gaylen Duskey he would like to work in conjunction with some of the area colleges about a satellite nursing facility.

Earlier this year Foilashade said he hoped to have crews on hand within the next few days to start work on the roof of the building.

"We need to stop the deterioration," he said, and "begin the restoration."

Local businessman Shirley Fitzwater was the first owner of the complex, which includes a gym and vocational building, he being the highest bidder at a Board of Education auction.
