The Calhoun Middle School Volleyball team hosted Ritchie County Middle School Trailblazers Tuesday evening in what proved to be some of the most exciting volleyball played by the middle school team this season.
After dropping the first game 22-25, the "B" team fought back to take the match title by downing Ritchie 25-19 and 25-23 in the best of three series.
Leading the "B" team was Kenzie Laughlin with 11 points and 9 aces. Samantha Fulks added 8 points, 4 aces; Brook Green 7 points, 4 aces; Kayla Cottrell 6 points, 1 ace and Katie Collins 5 points, 2 aces. Brook Green was 5/5 setting and Samantha Fulks was 5/9. From the attack line Makayla Johnson was 2/3. The match win improves the "B" team record to 2-2.
In two extremely close games, the "A" team defeated Ritchie 25-22 and 25-23 to claim match title.
Ashley Houchin with 8 points, 4 aces and Rochelle Gerwig with 8 points, 3 aces lead Calhoun "A". Savannah Church added 7 points, 6 aces; Amber Wilford 3 points, 1 ace; Jordan Mace 2 points, 1 ace and Michelle Hall 1 point, 1 ace.
Amber Wilford was 8/8 setting and Savannah Church was 5/6. From the attack line, Jordan Mace was 4/5, Ashley Houchin was 3/4 and Karissa Reip was 3/4. With the win, Calhoun "A" remains undefeated with a 5-0 record.
Both Calhoun Middle teams are in action again Thursday evening when they host Gilmer County. "B" team play begins at 6 p.m.
