The Little Kanawha Area Community Foundation (LKACF) will offer Community Action Grants for area non-profit groups in Calhoun and Wirt Counties. The grant cycle is open now. This is the first ever grant cycle for LKACF and is made possible by matching monies from a challenge grant offered by the Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation.
"Thanks to the generosity of our local folks as well as the wondrous grant made by the Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation, we are able to begin making needed contributions back to our community. This is truly amazing considering that we (LKACF) are not yet two years old," said Karen Caltrider, LKACF Board Chair.
"The Community Foundation is very eager to being issuing grants in Calhoun and Wirt Counties. The Community Foundation's role is to build permanent funds to support the area's greatest needs," said Sarah Holt, affiliate representative for LKACF.
LKACF will consider grant applications for health; human service; education; recreation; arts and culture; and economic development projects and programs that service Calhoun and Wirt Counties.
To be considered, an applicant must be a private, non-profit organization, tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or a public institution (school, municipality, etc.). Applications from individuals are not accepted. Grants are for one to two year projects. The Foundation focuses on Capital and Equipment Projects and Special Programs with an emphasis on: Start of up new projects/programs; one time projects/programs; seed money for pilot projects or a response to unmet or emerging community need; matching grants that leverage additional funding; projects that reach a broad segment of the community; projects not adequately served by existing community resources; expansion of existing programs; and urgent needs where prior planning for such needs could not have reasonably been made.
Submitting an application does not guarantee funding, as the Foundation's resources for Community Action Grants are very limited and the process is competitive.
Community Action Grants are not made toward program operating costs, annual campaigns, endowments, sectarian religious purposes or political causes.
Community Action Grant application forms and guidelines are available at the following locations: Calhoun County FRN office, Wirt County FRN office, Calhoun County Library, Dora B. Woodyard Library in Elizabeth, Coplin Clinic, Wesbanco and the Calhoun Banks offices in Grantsville, Elizabeth and Arnoldsburg.
The applications and guidelines will also be available at the Farm Bureau booth at the Wirt County fair. Grant applications can also be requested by calling Sarah Holt at the Community Foundation office toll free at 1-866-428-4438.
