HARDWAY SHOT BY DNR OFFICER SERVING WARRANT

(08/22/2006)
A Daniel's Run man was shot in the shoulder last night by a Department of Natural Resources officer, reportedly while the officer was attempting to serve a warrant.

Billy Hardway was life-flighted to Charleston Area Medical Center after the 7:30 p.m. incident on the Right Fork of Daniel's Run, a short distance from State Route 16, Millstone Hill.

Sources said DNR officer John Apgar shot Hardway at the Ramona Price residence after he apparently created a problem, resisting arrest.

Details leading to the shooting were not available.

Calhoun EMS responded to the call, taking Hardway to Arnoldsburg Community Park for the HealthNet flight.

DNR officers Apgar and Goins reportedly went to the residence to serve a warrant regarding an earlier incident involving Hardway.

Hardway has previously been the subject of law enforcement calls to the residence, including an incident a few weeks ago that allegedly involved several individuals involved in a conflict.

Because other county law enforcement officers were unavailable, DNR officer Apgar reportedly responded to the incident.

Calhoun County Sheriff Carl Ballangee and the State Police were investigating late last night, in addition to supervisors from the DNR.
