Police believe as many as three people arrived in
Glenville last Tuesday (Aug. 15) with the intention
of getting drunk.
They are believed to have been drinking in at least two
local bars including the GSC Sports Bar, Chief John
Moss said.
Sometime early Wednesday morning they decided
to steal a 2002 Chevy Avalanche belonging to Jeff
Campbell, owner of GSC Sports Bar on Main Street.
By 2:15 a.m. the truck was discovered on its side
after a high speed crash into a guard rail on Smithville
Hill in Ritchie County. Police say the truck was
a total loss.
The thief stopped at Go-Mart on his way out of town
and shoplifted a dried beef steak bar. Although store
clerks didn't see the theft, Chief Moss suspected it came
from there and asked to review store video.
The incident was captured by store cameras.
The wreck occurred .2 miles east of Gonzo Road.
Campbell's wallet was located at the scene of the
wreck.
After Campbell's truck was destroyed, suspects
stole another vehicle near Smithville Hill. They may
have abandoned that vehicle and eventually taken a
third one, police said.
Moss said Thursday there are suspects in the theft and he
planned to collect fingerprints and look for DNA at
the scene.
Arrests are expected.
