Charles "Roger" Kendall, 59, of Elyria, Ohio, died Monday, August 7, 2006 at Northridge Health Center following an extended illness.
He was born July 22, 1947 in Stumptown, West Virginia, and has been an Elyria resident since 1965. Mr. Kendall worked in the shipping department for General Plug in Grafton, Ohio for 26 years. He enjoyed writing, singing, and playing the guitar. He played country music with Country Class, and The Countrymen in past years.
He loved playing bluegrass and especially Bluegrass Gospel with The Kendall Family, Harmony Bluegrass, and The Harris Family in various churches in West Virginia. Locally he played with the Backporch Boys at churches in the Elyria and Grafton areas.
He also enjoyed bowling, golf, the Cleveland Indians and Browns.
He was a 1965 graduate of Calhoun High School in Grantsville, WV.
Survivors include his loving friend and caregiver, Kate Modock of Elyria; a son, Charles R. (Crystal) Kendall, Jr. of Grantsville, WV; his parents, Charles R. and Beveria H. Bennett Kendall of Stumptown, WV; a sister, Connie L. (Alva) Harris of Mineral Wells, WV; and a brother, Rev. Kenneth E. (Beverly) Kendall of Clarksburg, WV; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, August 11 at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, WV with Rev. John Vannoy officiating. Burial will be in the Collins Cemetery, Stumptown.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 12-noon until 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
