A body found near the Roane-Jackson County line was the body of a Cross Lanes, Kanawha County woman.
The murdered woman has been identified as 43-year-old Kathleen Jewell Adkins.
Her body was found Friday night in a remote area of northern Jackson County, but investigators were unable to identify her until matching fingerprints yesterday.
It was first thought the body was a another Kanawha County woman whose abandoned van was discovered on Charleston's west side.
Jackson County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Bruce Deweese says police got their break in the case when Kanawha County deputies received a call to check on Adkins at her home over the weekend.
A 22-year-old son told deputies his mother had been gone for about a week, a situation that wasn't unusual.
Jackson Chief Deputy Deweese says investigators compared fingerprints and were able to make a positive identification. Deputies found Adkins' car near where her body was located.
Investigators have indicated Adkins suffered severe injuries to her head.
The sheriff's department says they have a person of interest.
