COUNTY WORKERS GET A LITTLE BOOST

(07/31/2006)
Calhoun's county employees got a little financial boost in July, the county commission approved a "one time" pay increase.

Commission president Larry McCallister said the "bonus" is to help the county workers, many of whom made sacrifices during last year's budget crunch and have been given "very small pay increases" in the past several years.

"Most of our county employees are underpaid for the hard work they do," said McCallister, "Since the county has some excess money at the end of this fiscal year, we felt it was a way to help them and their families."

The employees will receive a one-time check in amounts ranging from $1,500 down to $400 for part-time workers, including the employees of Calhoun 911.

The one-time check will cost the county $23,201, in addition to $8,684 for 911 employees.

The county has fourteen full and part-time employees, with 911 having eight full and part-time employees.

The county's elected officials recently qualified for a pay increase mandated by the WV Legislature.
