West Virginia's DNR is doing battle with Chronic Wasting Disease, which has struck the deer population in Hampshire County.
They have approved a special antlerless season for October 27th through the 28th, that will take a substantial number of female deer out of the population before they can breed.
The disease is found in the brains of deer, elk moose and other antlered animals and is always fatal.
There is no evidence that chronic wasting disease can spread to humans.
The state's first CWD was discovered last September in the Hampshire County community of Slanesville during a routine test of a road-killed deer's brain tissue.
Eight others have tested positive.
