Madeline Brannon Smith, 83 of Spencer, WV, went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday,
July 23, 2001, after her death in the Regency Park Nursing Home, Orrville, Ohio.
She was born December 25, 1917, at Sand Ridge, Calhoun County, a daughter of the late
Lewis M. and Otta Poling Brannon.
Madeline retired in 1983, as the assistant manager of the G.C. Murphy Store, Spencer, with 40
years service. After her retirement she became active in the Roane County Helping Hand. She
was a devout Christian all of her life. She was a member of the Spencer Church of the
Nazarene, where she served as church treasurer, missionary president, sunday school teacher
and in other positions. In 1989, she was honored with the Distinguished Service award for
outstanding service by the Nazarene World Missionary Society.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Marjorie Brannon, Margarete Brannon and Mildred
Underwood, and a brother, Poling Riley Brannon.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Reverend Paul R. Smith of Spencer; daughter, Rogera
Flack of Orville, Ohio; grandson, Ethan Flack of Orrville; sisters, Alta Keen of Spencer and
Imogene Brannon of Point Pleasant, WV; a brother, Paul Brannon of Charleston, WV and a
nephew, James P. Brannon of Poca, WV.
Friends may call at the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and
at the Spencer Church of the Nazarene on Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m., where funeral services
will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Timothy Bess officiating. Burial will be in the Sand
Ridge Cemetery, Sand Ridge, WV.
