One of the big topics all around is the big ATV poker run July 15 at Creston. With the rash of accidents elsewhere, safety is important for the fun run.

A number of area residents attended the Firemen's ice cream social in Elizabeth.

Anna Reno and Austin Westfall returned home after a week at the beach.

Burl Dawson who has been on the sick list is home from the hospital.

The Loudens who purchased the Hunter F. Pell place spent the holiday weekend camping along the West Fork.

Some folks were in the area looking for the Woodring cemetery. They were not having the best of luck at last report.

Brandon Ferrell celebrated his 4th birthday with a party. Those attending included Carl, Donna Sue, Amy, Melissa, Jeremy, Andrea Ferrell, Brianna Hathaway, Eric, Austin Westfall, Matthew Copen and Jeannie Westfall.

Dorine Parsons moved to Parkersburg.

Alvin & Nancy Engelke motored to Strasburg Virginia to visit Anna Engelke who purchased a home there. They got to help her move (joy, joy). Anna had just returned from Europe where she was with a soccer tour group.

While Anna was gone Fritzina and Wilbur went to stay with friends but since that part of the world received "substantial" amounts of rain, poor Fritzina ended up being surrounded by high water in a basement in Front Royal.

Alvin returned home Sunday afternoon and decided to stop and see Mrs. C. N. Broschart who lives at Jimtown near Norton. He had gone to school with her son George at Glenville. As it turned out they were having a family get together with lots of fine food. Edna said, "Alvin can smell my cooking from miles away." The family members who have internet noted that they read the Creston news every week.

The price of local Penn grade crude oil rose to $69.75 over the weekend which was reflected in increased gasoline prices. It was noted that fuel in eastern W. Va. and Virginia runs from 10 to 20 cents less per gallon. Likely being closer to the Ohio River and barge traffic "makes the cost higher".

A fellow with Creston connections moved over on the head of Laurel near Nobe. Sometime between Sunday and Tuesday morning the house he was occupying and his adjacent camper burned. On Tuesday the fire was reported but, for some reason, the DPS was reluctant to investigate. "Oh there was a big rain and all the evidence was washed away."

"Are you going to have the fire marshal investigate?" "Oh no, it was a vacant house!". "No a man was living there and he was burned in the fire." "Well it was reported too late to do anything." But it was reported the next morning after it was said to have burned." "Well, we'll get back with you when we aren't busy". One might wonder who is being protected as the fellow who was living there insists, "They are trying to kill me."

Ohio Oil Gathering is running new plastic line in their oil line that runs from Brooksville to Laurel near the former Doyle Starcher residence. The company has had lots of trouble with the oil line that isn't all that old.

The Creston Community business meeting will be July 11 at 7 P. M. at the Community Building.

Some of Aunt Belle Wright's family are spending time at their place down below Creston.

The local area continues to get rain which, for certain, has made for happy frogs & toads.
