Left to Right: Bob Weaver, Sandi Marshall and Norma Knotts Shaffer
The Hur Herald was recognized Saturday for its contribution to preserving the history of Calhoun County, reporting the news and providing a media outlet to readers who access the site around the USA over two million times a year.
Editors Bob Weaver, Dianne Weaver and Norma Knotts Shaffer were presented with a plaque by the alumni class of 1956, holding a special gathering at the Grantsville senior's center.
Shaffer, one of the county's historians, was a member of the Class of 1955. Her life effort has been to record and preserve the county's written and photographic history, and has dutifully amassed a portfolio of people, places and events on the Herald.
The Herald is now completing its tenth year, and has been on line since 1999.
Sandi Marshall, one of the organizers of the reunion, said "Besides putting the county on the map, and allowing thousands of people to make contact with their roots everyday, you have taken risks to report the news in a forthright manner."
The Herald was also recognized at the 19th annual Alumni Gathering at Mt. Zion by Jean Simers, who spoke about life in "Sunny Cal," saying "The Herald has made a great contribution to our community, and allowed others to appreciate our life."
"It's hard to imagine what it would be like not to wake-up to the Hur Herald," Simers said.
