Two Wirt County 19-year-olds charged with arson after a major fire in Elizabeth now have three additional charges lodged against them.
The additional charges are related to the burning of buildings other than the historic Roberts Store, where the fire started.
Willie Trembly Jr., 19, and Jerod Evans, 19, appeared before Wirt County Magistrate David Roberts and waived their preliminary hearings on the initial charges of breaking and entering and second-degree arson.
The cases will now be presented to a grand jury.
Police records say "They gave signed statements that they ... did break the front door window pane from (Roberts' Store), entered and did within steal and carry away the entire stock of cigarettes, miscellaneous soda and candy and new coveralls from said business."
Sgt. Lew Peck of the Wirt County Sheriff's Department said the pair admitted to setting fire to the building as they were leaving to cover-up the break-in.
Trembly and Evans are being held in North Central Regional Jail on $60,000 bond for the initial charges and are being held on an additional $90,000 bond for the new arson charges, $30,000 for each charge.
