CALHOUN CANCER SURVIVORS 'FIGHT THE FIGHT'

(06/26/2006)

One only has to take family inventory to acknowledge the devastation of cancer.

A few years ago there was the piecing together of a number of quilts with remembered names of victims from Calhoun, when put on display in the Calhoun County Library, it drove the message home.

While the victims are many, a large number of cancer survivors stepped forward at Friday night's Relay for Life, to remind everyone there are survivors.

The newest survivor was Helen Morris (pictured right), publisher of the Calhoun Chronicle, with one month, and the longest survivor was Loretta Stevens, with 37 years.

Also in Friday's circle, was Calhoun Middle-High School student Travis Godfrey, who has been recognized for his "fight for life."
