CHIEF DEPUTY BANDY RESIGNS - "Contempt Of Court Issue"

(06/22/2006)
Calhoun County's Chief Deputy Sheriff Ron Bandy resigned yesterday, after a hearing before Judge David Nibert.

Bandy had failed to appear in court in a timely manner in criminal cases, according to Prosecuting Attorney Matt Minney.

Bandy was late for his own hearing yesterday before Judge Nibert.

That hearing was to allow Bandy to show cause why he had not appeared in court hearings to which he had been subpoenaed, including a pre-trial case last week.

Minney said "It is basically a contempt of court issue." Minney was in the process of requesting a capias warrant to compel his appearance.

Bandy was released on $1,000 bond, and is expected to appear before the judge in July to answer the contempt.

Bandy turned in his badge and gun to office personnel, said Sheriff Ballengee.

Ballengee said the Calhoun County Sheriff's Department will be seeking at least two new deputy sheriffs.
