Ten officers from various Pennsylvania police
departments are taking classes this week at
Glenville State College.
A few citizens noticed police officers in fatigues
and black t-shirts and wondered if the regional
drug task force had set up headquarters here.
The training may be tough, but the policemen are
also having a good time. When asked about
where they work one officer smiled, saying,
"That's classified information."
All joking aside, police officers from across
the U.S. attend continuing education classes
year-round at Glenville State College at its
National Corrections & Law Enforcement Training
& Technology Center.
The center was established by
a grant secured by Congressman Alan Mollohan.
Classes this week include intermediate tactical
handgun, high risk injury and bus assaults.
"It's all about saving lives," an officer said.
Training manager Harry Teare is lead instructor
of the officer's training.
Teare was recently
hired as police chief of Grantsville. He is also an
instructor in the criminal justice program as well.
Over 700 officers were trained last year as part of the
Glenville State College program, Teare said.
All West Virginia police officers are required to take
16 hours of continuing education yearly; Pennsylvania
officers need 24.

College program contact Harry Teare at 304-462-6461.
