CALHOUN VOTERS CAST 135 EARLY BALLOTS - Light Turnout Predicted For Tuesday

(05/05/2006)
Calhoun voters have used early voting at the County Clerk's office 135 times, as of yesterday.

Early voting concludes Saturday, hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

County Clerks around WV are predicting a low voter turn-out next Tuesday, as low as 15%.

Americans appear to be turning up less and less to vote.

The low turn-out prediction is based on this being an off-year election.

The turn-out could be affected by the installation of computerized voting in 34 counties.

Calhoun Clerk Richard Kirby said Calhoun's voters so far have been receptive to the touch-screen voting system.

WVs Secretary of State has indicated the state may bring a lawsuit against a programming company for its failure to provide the computer ballot in a timely manner.

Several WV counties are still having problems getting the system operational, and some are using paper ballots.
