Jack W. Floyd, 65, of Parkersburg died April 23, 2006, at St. Joseph's Hospital. Floyd was a former resident of Grantsville and attended local schools.

He was born Jan. 23, 1941, in Sand Fork, W.Va., a son of the late Jesse and Pauline Yerkey Floyd. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

Jack spent many years as a contractor in the Parkersburg area, worked in sales and for E.I. Dupont. He was an avid WVU Mountaineer fan and recently attended the 2006 Sugar Bowl in Atlanta.

He enjoyed spending time with friends at Parkersburg City Park. He spent many hours volunteering at Erickson All-Sports Facility, for which he was acknowledged with his name credited with others on a sign at the field.

He was very witty, liked to tell jokes and make people laugh. He did not know a stranger and he never forgot a friend. Jack loved his home state dearly and for years his license plate read JWF 4 WV.

Survivors include son, Jason Floyd of Parkersburg; daughter, Jill Morrison and her husband, Mitch, of Washington, W.Va.; sister, Patty Johnson and husband, Cecil, of Barlow, Ohio; brother, John Floyd of Fairmont, W.Va.; grandson, Nathaniel Morrison; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Floyd; and sister, Linda Floyd Wright.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg with Pastor Bill Reid officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Parkersburg. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Military graveside rites will be by the American Legion Post 15.
