Alumni of Calhoun's original high school will return for the 19th annual Alumni Day tomorrow at CM-HS, with a total registration nearing 400.

Alumni President Loyd Wright said "It will be a big weekend for the alumni. Things are on track for their return."

An announcement will be made about the recipient of a recent graduate who will be receiving the alumni scholarship.

A number of classes are having special reunions.

A highlight of this year's event is the dedication of the new Wayne Underwood Museum, CCHS alumni Donald Weaver, class of '48, of Virginia Beach, a former coach and associate of Underwood, will serve as MC for the dedication.

Only one person has registered who graduated from the new Calhoun-Middle High School, with few alumni attending since the Class of 1966.

At least 270 former graduates are registered for the event.

Students from those early years where attached to the institution, mostly because life centered on school and church during those times.

There are many diversions and interests in recent years in this globalized world, with fewer people connected to place.

The unfortunate death of Ila Grey Snider has left a void in the gathering, but Emily Gainer says the event will continue as planned, with Loyd Wright, Class of '55, assuming the role as president of the group.

William 'Bill' Ice, class of '48, will serve as Master of Ceremonies for the alumni event.

The reservation period has ended with the at-the-door fee $15.

Honor classes this year are 1946 (60th anniversary); 1956 (50th anniversary); 1961 (45th anniversary) and 1966 (40th anniversary). The alumni committee needs speakers for the anniversary classes.

Alumni Day will commence with registration at 9 a.m., with a special program in the auditorium from 11:30-12:30 p.m.
