For the Braxton County Eagles, there was no chance to produce any large amount of runs against the outstanding pitching and fielding that was displayed by the Calhoun Red Devils.
The Red Devils swept a two game set against southern division foe Braxton County here Wednesday at Calhoun High.
Game one was a blowout as Calhoun had mounted a 9-0 lead into the 3rd inning and got their 10th as Senior Chad Conley crossed the plate to answer the lone run by the Eagles.
Calhoun never looked back as they got their 3rd win of the season.
Led defensively by the accurate rocket of an arm possessed by senior Tom Gerwig, the Red Devils dominated the game by keeping the Eagle Offense in check. The Devils second game wasn't quite as dominate early, as the Eagles found a couple runs early in the game, but the Red Devil bats exploded for 6 runs to carry them to a 6-2 victory over the Eagles.
The second game was highlighted once again by Senior Tom Gerwig who lifted not one, but two pitches over the outfield fence. The sweep of the Eagles has the Red Devils sitting with a record of 4-5 and riding a 3 game winning streak. Calhoun's next game is tonight in South Harrison at 4:30.
