Calhoun High School
Last week prospective and returning Calhoun High students, including the incoming freshmen, came together in the school auditorium for Head Coach Bryan Stern's first football meeting.
Coach Sterns was impressed with the large number of young men attending, and he should be. Calhoun High has averaged 30 to 35 players on their seasonal roster on a good year.
This August may be a time of change for the Red Devils as possibly near 60 young men will show up for training camp.
The larger number of players should give the Red Devils more depth and definitely more competition in positions they didn't have in the past.
The bulk of the 57 student athletes come from the talented group of freshmen. As everyone knows Calhoun Middle School won their first conference title on the gridiron, putting CMS on the map as a power on the football field.
These athletes will make the transition to their next ladder to climb, building a strong foundation for Calhoun High football and winning a Little Kanawha Conference title.
Coach Sterns is definitely the right man to place the building blocks as he has a solid record of 13-8 in his first two seasons for the Devils and one playoff appearance.
As the number of athletes playing football at Calhoun County High School rises, it's quite relative that the wins will increase too.
