"When troubles call and your back's to the wall,
There a lot to be learned, that wall could fall...
Oops, there goes another rubber tree plant." - from "High Hopes"

A few years ago Union Carbide employed about 10,000 people in the Kanawha Valley.
The company, when it merged with Dow Chemical in 2001, employed about 2,400.
Meetings are scheduled this morning between Dow Chemical Co. officials and the company's remaining 900 West Virginia employees.
It is likely an announcement that those jobs are going somewhere as a result of the globalized market.
Kanawha County Commission President Kent Carper said he heard there would be "several hundred job losses."
Hopefully, there will be more Wal-Marts and burger joints opened in Kanawha County to keep the unemployment numbers looking good.
