Rev. Juanita Lockhart filled her regular appointment at the Burning Springs M. E. church. The Marks family, Sierra Starcher, Kelly Cunningham and Janet Jett provided special music.

Rev. & Mrs. Carroll McCauley met with members of the Burning Springs and Bell Chapel M. E. churches to get input on items of concern. There was plenty of discussion and Mrs. McCauley took lots of notes. Some of the high mugwumps, away from here, have strange ideas and stranger associates.

Nancy Hall received a good report from her physician while Eva G. Pennington did not fare so well with her report.

Hope, Rebecca and Rick Starcher, Ted Grim, Fred and Betty Bish and Ellen Hedge were among those working on the window project at the Creston Community Building. Ted fetched down a special ham from Erie while Ellen brought some of her famous noodles and a yummy desert, all of which went well with food provided by others. Don and Mia Rhodes brought little Sue Ann over for all to see. She is a happy little baby and obviously receiving good care.

On Friday evening Ted & Fred motored to a Calhoun eatery but they arrived at about 3 minutes til 8 and since closing was at 8 they were out of luck. The employees didn't want to get "whistle burnt".

Hairy bitter cress and water maples are both in bloom and the recent warm rain is bringing things right along. There have been lots of folks wetting lines in popular fishing streams.

One of the Gilmer federal prison workers has moved to Burning Springs.

The FunChester group had a barbecue over the weekend.

Those present for Austin Westfall's 6th birthday party included Brandon, Andrea, Jeremy, Missy and Amy Ferrell, Hope Starcher, Mary Reno, Jeannie Westfall, Matthew Copen, Dr. Tad Smith and wife Andrea, Anicah & Ethan, Donna and Sophia, Dillon & Alicia Jenkins, Jeff Westfall, Jessie and Kaitlyn Butler as well as Anna Reno. The birthday boy also received lots of cards.

Anna Engelke motored to Washington Dee Cee over the weekend & visited the Holocaust Museum. Now the new "leader" in Iran said there never was a slaughter of Jews by the Communists & Nazis but he plans to annihilate all Jews in Israel which is why he is making atomic bombs. He would do well to read the Book of Esther before he gets too far with the project.

Jane Engelke went to Los Angeles on business and while in the airport concourse saw Jessica Wedge, Miss W. Va. USA, over on the other side of the luggage pickup. Jessica is in LA filming Deal or No Deal. Since neither expected to see the other they only later, via cell phones, caught up with each other.

Nancy Engelke is getting along well after undergoing cataract surgery. She has excellent distance vision "with her new eye".

There have been several military flights over the local area recently. There are the old training planes that skim over the treetops and there have been some big choppers.

Hattie V. Rogers who now lives in Summersville will turn 90. When she lived in Glenville she helped take care of Nellie Engelke when she wasn't well.

The price of local Penn grade crude oil fell to $56/bbl over the weekend although the retail price of gasoline at the pumps has yet to reflect the tumble.

It was learned that Chesapeake Appalachia (the outfit that purchased Columbia Natural Resources) and others plan to do an extensive geological and geophysical surveys, as well as drilling along what they call the I-79 corridor which would run from Kanawha County through Roane, Clay and Braxton Counties. This would pretty much parallel the Arches Fork anticline. The study & search for deep gas even extends on through to Upshur County. Some feel that when the deep gas is removed the shallow wells will drop off, as they will no longer be fed through lineaments that connect to the deep pays. Initial studies of wells around the Parker deep well in Roane County gave this theory substantial credence.

The legislative gathering down at the Mouth of the Elk finished up Saturday night but it will take some time to find out what was done that will have bad impacts on common citizens. Earlier on there was a big commotion over the "excessive cost" of keeping child molesters and baby rapers off the streets. There was also vehement objection to telling parents when their under aged daughters were having abortions.

Danny Walker was visiting friends in Creston recently.

Rev. S. E. Cooper, Jr. had a big shed torn down.

C. Marks was camping over the weekend at Camp Mohanegan on the Middle Fork River near Lantz.

The Wirt County Farm Bureau will meet Tuesday, March 21 at 7 P. M. at the road garage in Elizabeth. Everyone is welcome.
