GRANTSVILLE WOMEN ARRESTED FOR FORGERY - Spencer Bank Cameras Catch Attempt

(07/07/2001)
Two Grantsville women have been arrested for forgery, according to the Spencer Police Department. Christina Darlene Blake and Joyce Marie Lamont, both 25, apparently attempted to cash a $4,189.08 check at the First National Bank.

They have been charged with forgery and uttering, after driving off without the check. Both have been released on $2000 bond with hearings set in Roane Magistrates Court on July 13.

The check reportedly landed in a post office box in Grantsville by mistake, and the women attempted to cash it at a First National drive-in window on June 11. Banking tellers became suspicious, and the women drove away.

Bank security cameras were used to identify the women, later arrested by Spencer Policeman Sgt, Mike Harper.

The check was intended for Greenwood Meat Packing Company in Calhoun, Georgia, but somehow landed in Calhoun County, West Virginia.
