Wilbur Schenerlien III and wife, Jane Engelke, returned from a trip to Cancun. Other than being treated to Montezuma's revenge, they had a great time. Also there were the Hathaway's, the "Hooners" who have a big car lot on Seventh Street in Parkersburg.

Rev. Paul Williams filled his regular appointment at the Burning Springs M. E. church. The women's circle will meet Thursday at 6 A. M. at the home of Mrs. Joe Pennington on Burning Springs Run.

Crocuses have been blooming, the USDA's multiflora rose has started to grow and the spade-footed toads have already made their annual above ground appearance locally. It was reported that some fine muskellunge have been harvested from the Little Kanawha River & ramps should soon be up.

Jeremy Ferrell went off on a camping trip with friends.

Some folks set up a tent & camped over on the Bell property in the Germany section. They also burned up the remaining part of what was known as the "old chicken coop".

Both Charles & Euell Russell were consulting with Dr. Bennett at Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center in Grantsville. Euell has to have more tests.

Some ground has been worked up for garden, fence is being built and other spring activities are in full swing.

As a prank, one local woman purchased a red light bulb and put in the lamp on another woman's front porch.

Nellie Engelke who formerly taught at the Creston school as well as Brooksville and elsewhere is a very remarkable woman. Although she passed away in 1981, she was pre-approved for two credit cards last year and Bill Bright, a Summersville wheeler dealer, wanted to buy her standing timber. But that was not all for now she has been sued because she owned some oil and gas that someone else wants.

Verlin Riggs, age 76, passed away at Little Hocking. He had formerly lived at Creston Ohio. Burial was at the Bryner Chapel at Joker.

Johnny Miller, the star route mailman from Creston via Annamoriah, Joker and Hur to Mt. Zion, reported that he was on the mend and should be back soon carrying the mail. Son Joe has been filling in for him.

Speaking of mail there was plenty of excitement at the Creston post office the other Saturday as an inspector was there to count the mail for the routes. Things got off to a really slow start when Arley was late. Generally on Saturday, Jack brings the mail & is always on time.

Charles White's sister, Emma, had a pacemaker installed. Also it was reported that Walto Boggs is not doing too well. Walto used to run the Creston ferry for Ed Merrill.

Debra Corra, Julia Starcher, Mr. & Mrs. Holly Roscoe Greathouse, Jr., Mr. & Mrs. Cleveland Starcher, Norman Simmons & Denver Richards were all attending to business in Creston.

Ted Grimm who lives in Erie Pennsylvania is scheduled to come down Friday, March 10 to work on the windows in the Creston Community Building. Hopefully if there are some volunteers the second set will be installed Friday & Saturday.

Vera White had some nice pictures of the towboat where she works. One of the deck hands is the son of Keith and Jane Cain Lynch. Vera is the cook so one can be sure that no one goes without good food.

Mother Hope (Dominion) announced that they are going to sell off their retail gas distribution systems to Equitable Gas, a Pittsburgh based outfit that did have more wells in West Virginia than any other company. Equitable is drilling a large number of wells on a grid in southern Jackson & eastern Roane County. It is understood that the reason is so that seismic tests can be made for deep gas that underlies the area.

A contractor working for Chesapeake (the new owner of Columbia Natural Resources) announced that there was going to be 3-D [three dimensional] seismic work done in southern Roane County. One set of lines will run north/south while the other will run northwest/southeast to intersect the trending structures that run at right angles thereto. Permission is required before they can get on people's land.

Mother Hope also drilled another deep well on Pine Creek although it is reported that it is being filled back to the lower Devonian. Reserve drilled in a 2.5 million natural at Orma. Company president David Freshwater reported that is was the best well he has ever drilled.

The price of local Penn grade crude rose to $59.75/bbl over the weekend.

Alvin Engelke was calling on Dorine Parsons who fed him a big plate of delicious spaghetti. Alvin also took Lyle Kerby (who apparently has lived a sheltered life) on a tour of a number of southern West Virginia chicken farms. It seems the folks down there like to have lots and lots of roosters crowing every morning. While the birds look for the world like game chickens, everyone knows that people do not fight roosters anymore. People must raise them so they can have fresh eggs for breakfast and fried chicken for Sunday dinner.

Nancy Engelke attended a Teen America preliminary pageant in Ripley Saturday evening.

B. G. Roberts' log loader was parked the other day at the B A Timber yard at Annamoriah. A big pile of logs was stacked up the other day at the Annamoriah bridge.

Butch Goodnight and other "junkers" have been busy in the Creston area. If they were to go to some southern West Virginia counties they would be obliged to obtain larger trucks.

P. P. Greathouse was attending to business near the mouth of Polecat the day. A fellow told a story about when he went to get tires to burn brush and flattened 3 on his own chariot.
