GRANTSVILLE VOTERS APPROVE EXCESS LEVY

(03/04/2006)
Grantsville voters went to the polls yesterday to decide the renewal of the town's excess levy.

Eighty-percent of the voters approved the levy, but the voter turn-out was underwhelming.

Thirty-eight voted yes, with 9 voting no, according to Town Recorder Roger Propst.

The levy annually generates $19,407 for streets and $5,000 to help pay the town's insurance premiums.

The levy will not add to residents' tax bills, but will continue tax rates at the current level for the next five years.

Passage of the levy required a 60% voter approval.

"The levy is a vital source of revenue for our town, and we appreciate its renewal," said Propst.
