James Dale Sampson, 81 - Parkersburg, formerly of Calhoun

James Dale Sampson, 81, of Parkersburg passed away Feb. 28, 2006, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

He was born Aug. 29, 1924, in Calhoun County, a son of the late John Edward and Pearl Craddock Sampson. Mr. Sampson retired from Johns-Mansville with 38 years of service. He was a member of the Lightner Memorial Church and had served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Surviving are his daughter, Angelia and her husband, Wilson "Billy" Matthey, of Walker; three grandchildren, Josey Matthey and Minday Matthey, both of Parkersburg, and Lacey de-Guzman and husband, Ryan, of California; a great-grandson, Braden de-Guzman; a special aunt, Muriel Bassnett of Calhoun County; nephew, Gary Sampson and wife, Chris, and their daughter, Michelle, of Parkersburg; and his life long close friend and soul mate, Bernadine Ayers Evans of Grantsville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Cunningham Sampson in 1987; his son, Wayne Sampson in 1978; and a brother, Randall Sampson.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth Street, Parkersburg, with the Rev. Tim Henson officiating. Burial will follow at the Gibson Cemetery near Arnoldsburg in Calhoun County. Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
