During Monday's meeting of the Calhoun Board of Education,
Maxine Lane addressed the board concerning the canceled Valentine's dance at Calhoun Middle-High School and
Amy Cooper, representing the Library Board, addressed the Board concerning the renewal of the library levy.
Don Harris reported on the January 24 CGCC meeting and Carlene Frederick reported on the January 25 RESA V meeting. The board discussed a study of board minutes.
The board went into an executive session regarding an expulsion after which the board voted unanimously that the student be expelled for one calendar year for violation of the Student Code of Conduct.
The following new business was approved:
- Student Transfer Request - Robert Byrd III - from Ritchie County to Calhoun County
- Volunteer Agreements: Samantha Jarvis - CMHS and Lynette Wilford - CMHS
- Policy Revisions - Graduation Requirements
- Out of State Conference Request - Lloyd Hall - March 2-3, 2006 - U.S. Space and Rocket Center; Huntsville, Alabama
- Home School Request - Theresa Bennett (grade 7) - Bruce Bennett
Personnel items approved:
- Retirement/Resignations - Esther Laughlin
- Job Posting - Mentor - Science Teacher (CMHS)
- Employment - Charles Ritchie - Bus (#23) Driver/Custodian
Finance items were approved with a monthly financial report given.
The board discussed concerns regarding staffing, student expulsions, building maintenance, employee retirement system and the WVSBA/WVASA Winter Conference.
The next (special) meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 6 beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Pleasant Hill School.
