RYAN "GOOB" FITZWATER TO UNDERGO FURTHER SURGERIES - Blood Donations Appreciated

(07/03/2001)
Update 9:00 p.m.

Ryan "Goob" Fitzwater's dad Rick, checked in with the Herald this evening to update us on Goob's condition and to thank the many friends, family and neighbors, who have been praying for his recovery.

Goob was injured Monday, July 2, in a tractor accident, near his home at Hur. See yesterdays story and update

"Goob underwent emergency surgery Monday evening to repair damage to the femoral artery. He has presently received 14 units of blood," says Rick.

A second surgery is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. Wednesday to repair wounds. A third surgery is tentatively scheduled for Thursday to begin repair of pelvic injuries.

Rick says, "Goob" is stable and breathing on his own. He is sedated and on a respirator, as a precautionary measure, to abate problems with his lungs as a result of the large amounts of blood received. It is expected that he will require further units during upcoming surgeries.

The Fitzwater family would like to remind the community to donate blood whenever possible. "We never know when someone we love will need it," said Rick.

The Brooksville Baptist Church will hold an American Red Cross Blood Drive on July, 19 from noon until 6 p.m. Donations may be made in Ryan Fitzwater's name at that time.

Although flowers are not permitted, Ryan and his family would appreciate cards and notes. They may be sent to:
