In recognition of National Heart Awareness Month, Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center (MHHCC) partnered with Calhoun County Banks and Rural Health Education Center (RHEC) to offer free screenings on Friday, February 3, 2006.

February is American Heart Month and Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center (MHHCC) has joined with The Heart Truth campaign to raise awareness that heart disease is the #1 killer of women. The Heart Truth campaign features a Red Dress as the national symbol for women and heart disease awareness and makes the statement, "Heart disease doesn't care what you wear-it's the #1 killer of women." It links a women's focus on her "outer self" to the need to also focus on her "inner self" and her heart.

By wearing red on Friday, February 3, 2006, we honored women everywhere by making a visual pledge to "Go Red."

Participants of the free screenings were checked for height, weight, blood pressure and body mass index. Each person stopping at the booth received a free packet entitled Cardiac Directions: Healthy Habits for Your Heart. There were 100 packets of information distributed.

All the lady participants were given a red dress pin in honor of Go Red for Women Day. The screenings were performed at the Grantsville and Arnoldsburg branches of Calhoun Banks with 37 women and 11 men taking advantage of the service.

MHHCC has designated 2006 as a year devoted to raising health awareness throughout Calhoun and our surrounding counties. Please watch the local news sources for upcoming events and screenings.
