GRANTSVILLE COUPLE DIE FOLLOWING PLEASANT HILL ACCIDENT

A dozen or more firemen and emergency personnel
worked feverishly providing trauma care to a Grantsville
man and his wife following the 7:52 p.m. accident

The auto rolled-over on Rt. 16, just north
of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church

A Grantsville area man and his wife died in a single-vehicle accident Monday night after it rolled-over on Pleasant Hill, about two and one-half miles north of Grantsville.

Their names are being withheld, pending notification of next of kin.

The female driver,71, who was wearing a seatbelt had to be extracted from the car by members of the Grantsville VFD and Calhoun EMS.

Emergency personnel worked diligently removing the woman from the vehicle, and immediately gave her CPR with no response.

Her husband, 72, was reported out of the vehicle by a passerby, but appeared to collapse and quit breathing shortly thereafter.

Firemen and EMS personnel continued to perform CPR on both victims, en-route to Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center.

HealthNet had been notified of the accident, but neither were life-flighted to Charleston.

Coroner Ed Messenger was making a decision regarding sending one or both of the victims to the State Medical Examiners office.

Cpl. Doug Starcher and Sheriff Carl Ballengee were at the scene. Cpl. Starcher is the investigating officer.

The accident was the second with fatalities within ten days.
