HARDWAY GOES ON TRIAL IN FEBRUARY - Could Face Additional Charges

(01/26/2006)
Jackie Lee Hardway, 61, of Roane County will go on trial February 21 in federal court on drug charges filed against him by federal officials, but he will now be facing additional charges because he violated home confinement last Thursday.

Hardway is facing a five-count indictment which includes manufacturing methamphetamine, two counts of distribution of methamphetamine, conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and carrying a firearm in connection with a drug trafficking case.

If Hardway is convicted of all the charges, he is facing up to 20 years in prison and $1 million in fines.

Now, he may be facing additional time.

Hardway removed his monitoring bracelet and took off, but turned himself over to Calhoun Sheriff Carl Ballengee the following evening.

A warrant was issued in the US Magistrate Court and US Marshals and local officials searched the Roane and Calhoun area.

Hardway contacted his federal parole officer and asked that he be allowed to turn himself over to Sheriff Ballengee.

Hardway's son, Leonard Hardway, 33, is slated to be sentenced today by U.S. District Judge John T. Copenhaver after pleading guilty earlier to a one-count indictment charging him with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.

Leonard Hardway's wife, Leila, is also incarcerated on drug charges.
