A Roane County youth died following the crash of his vehicle at Looneyville about 4:40 p.m. yesterday.
The victims name is Sam Craddock of Spencer, who just turned 20.
Craddock was northbound on W.Va. 36 when he lost control of his vehicle, crossed into the southbound lane, returned to the northbound lane, spun 180 degrees and hit a fence, according to Trooper E.S. Fisher of the Spencer detachment.
State Police said the cause of the crash appeared to be excessive speed.
Craddock was a sophomore at Fairmont State University, where he was a member of the football team.
Roane County emergency services responded to the wreck near the old compressor station at Looneyille, a hamlet south of Spencer.
Craddock is the son of Chris Craddock and Debbie Craddock.
