DEER KILL DOWN IN CALHOUN

(12/10/2005)
West Virginia deer hunters killed more than 56,000 bucks and nearly 28,000 antlerless deer during the recent seasons.

The state reports the buck kill was down 12 percent from the 2004 total and the antlerless deer kill was down 37 percent.

DNR in Parkersburg told the Herald the unofficial count for Calhoun during the first two weeks was 868 bucks and 497 doe.

Last week they said the Calhoun kill was down 22%, apparently overall, but Holbert's Store said the count there for the first week was down about 32%.

The lower antlerless kill was attributed to reduced bag limits and that only 41 of the state's 55 counties were open for antlerless hunting.
