The McKelvey Foundation has announced the 2006 Gold Scholarship recipients from the senior class at Calhoun High School.
They are Kendra Curry and Victor Carpenter.
The scholarship pays for tuition, room and board, and approved fees of up to $10,000 per year for four years at a public or private McKelvey partnering college or university in West Virginia.
The McKelvey Scholarship meets un-met financial needs for students following other grants.
Other benefits include:
· Access to the McKelvey Foundation Field Administrator, Martha Dean.
· Attendance at Camp McKelvey which will help orient students to college life and introduce entrepreneurial skills.
· Participation in a one-day conference to meet with Mr. and Mrs. McKelvey.
As a McKelvey Gold Scholarship Winner, students are obligated to apply for other grants, and
attend a four-year McKelvey partnering college in West Virginia and live on campus with a roommate throughout their college experience.
The recipients are also required to maintain a GPA acceptable to the college or university for the first two years and graduate with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5.
The must also participate in work/study or other on-campus employment a minimum of ten hours per week, and
complete a minimum of 50 hours of community service after freshman, sophomore, and junior years.
