Hazel C. "Kate" Barker, 66, of Smithville died Nov. 10, 2005, at her residence.
She was born Aug. 19, 1939, in Gilmer County, the daughter of the late Alvin H. "Red" and Elsie Mae Wyer Wells.
She was the former owner and manager of Barker's Marathon, Smithville. Kate served as a certified EMT for the Smithville area for many years. She was a role model for her community and she lived for her family. She attended Smithville United Methodist Church.
Kate is survived by two sons, Samuel Barker of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Franklin T. Barker and wife, Dawn, of Harrisville; two daughters, Joanna "Jodi" Smith and husband, Jeff, of West Bend, Wis., and Mitzie McLaughlin of Smithville; one brother, Hatzel Wells of Canton, Ohio, and Ruby Ayers of Ripley; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Rachel Mae Grogg.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Smithville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Lawson Whipkey officiating. Burial will follow in the Nobe Cemetery, Five Forks.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Raiguel Funeral Home, Harrisville, and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
