Yesterday was the first time since 9-11 that the entire student body of Calhoun Middle and Calhoun High School congregated in the gym, said principal Mike Offutt.

It was a special Veteran's Day Assembly, recognizing veterans from the area and all who have served, past and present, in the USA military.

Several old soldiers, and a few younger ones, were recognized during the ceremony by Katie Walker, Student Council president, all receiving patriotic pins for service to their country.

Hannah Conley read a list of deceased veterans and Kara Siers read "To Our Silent Brothers."

Cory Roberts presented a power-point production about the lives of area veterans.

The school's band and choir performed "America the Beautiful" and "God Bless the USA."

The event was sponsored by the Calhoun High Music Department and Student Council
