The Little Kanawha Area Community Foundation (LKACF) will join more than 650 community foundations across the country for Community Foundation Week, November 12-18, to celebrate local charitable giving.

"Community foundations are at the heart of our cities and towns. We know the places of need in our area, and we can direct resources to solve those problems," said Sarah Holt, LKACF representative.

"Here at the Little Kanawha Area Community Foundation, donors can help build permanent resources to meet the community's broad charitable needs that will benefit Wirt and Calhoun Counties forever! "

Community foundations are one of the fastest growing sectors of philanthropy in the United States today.

"Donors of all kinds find that community foundations are an ideal vehicle for their philanthropy, offering people the opportunity to give back to the community," said Steve Gunderson, president and CEO of the Council on Foundations.

"Their strength and ingenuity have put them in financial positions that better serve their communities."

Locally, Governor Joe Machin, III has proclaimed November 12-18 as Community Foundation week in West Virginia, citing the efforts of the state's foundations to improve the future by creating community legacies to benefit all of West Virginia.

LKACF was founded on September 17, 2004, as an affiliate of the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation (PACF). Its Board of Directors is made up of 14 members representing all of the communities within Wirt and Calhoun Counties.

LKACF was awarded, in July of 2005, a $10,000 challenge grant from the Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation through the West Virginia Grantmakers Association.

LKACF has currently raised over $5,000 towards that challenge, which ends in February.

LKACF is one of 24 members of the West Virginia Community Foundations Consortium.

The Consortium represents community foundations, affiliates and county funds in the Mountain State working to build hometown philanthropy.
