While the completion of Calhoun's new 911 Control Center has been slow coming, it is finally speeding up, according to 911 Director Dave Johnson.
The Calhoun Commission accepted an $85,000 bid for a 180 foot tower package, which includes everything from 20 foot deep concrete to anchor the free-standing structure, to multiple antennas needed for operation.
The contract was awarded to Miller Communications of Parkersburg, the only bidder. Work is expected to start soon on the tower at the 911 center located behind Calhoun Middle-High School.
Johnson said the tower is expected to improve communications to parts of the county, but suggested that another transmitter will likely be located to cover the lower West Fork section and the greater Annamoriah-Creston area.
The commission has also given a contract to complete work using a $11,200 courthouse security grant.
Advanced Alarm Technologies of Parkersburg will do security work for the courthouse, including the installation of two additional TV cameras, monitors and security locks for three doors to be opened by access cards.
