The Creston auction will be held Saturday, November 5, starting at 6 P. M. at the Creston Community Building. Bobby Ray will have bacon this time so now is a good time to lay in supplies for deer hunting camp. Bacon and eggs for breakfast and cheese to pack into the woods while hunting for the 30-point bucks. There will be the usual goodies at the auction, 50/50 and yummy Creston hot dog sauce. For details call Donna Sue at 275-3202.

They came out of the woodwork and they crawled out from under the rocks, there were lions and tigers (some of them rather young), a baby duck and old King Kong (who, by the way, is in deep doo doo). There was a cute cleaning lady and a pumpkin lady and a beautiful damsel from the middle ages. There was a beautiful bride (but no groom), some cute fairies and a whole bunch of witches and some who looked like women of some disrepute (one lacking only her whip), there were the undead, a Basil Cline look alike, a couple of Amish look alikes and some science fiction types. There was one young cowboy type who had a very itchy trigger finger. The bravest of the bunch took a haunted hayride, complements of Linda and Gary Buchanan, up to the old ball field where the ghosts of ball players, now long gone, frequent.

One "poor underfed" resident of the Little Creek section kept asking when the vittles would be ready for, one might presume, his cook had neglected her duties. Needless to say, he was first in the line when the food was served.

Denver McFarland made his famous stew (actually he made two, one hot and one for the women, children and sick people), there were pies, cakes, cookies, punch and pop as well as treat bags for all the young (at heart). Well over 130 came for the fun, food and fellowship. Grantsville barrister F. John Oshaway, Vera White and a handsome fellow with a short haircut did the judging. The community would like to thank all who worked to make a safe Halloween for the local youngsters. Dorine Parsons announced that she would make a substantial contribution to next year's party.

Norma McFee of Burning Springs Run died suddenly in her sleep. While she had experienced some health problems, her death was not anticipated.

Ernest Ralph Cunningham, age 86 of Coolville Ohio passed away. Burial was at the Wright cemetery.

Betty Myers and James A. Plummer were both visiting Dorine Parsons.

Rev. Carlos Nutter filled his regular 5th Sunday appointment at the Burning Springs M. E. church.

Hope Starcher is on the sick list.

Debbie Harper of Spencer was visiting in Creston over the weekend.

Gary Buchanan was moving hay over the weekend and tobacco growers were working up their tobacco while it was "in case". There have been some new calves seen in the area too.

Brooksville postmaster Lynn Marks retired after a long haul with the postal system. He will be missed.

Cosmo and Fu Fu (Granby) decided to tangle with a polecat. Of course the kitty won.

Tommy Gay Wright and Timmy Q. McKinght motored to Parkersburg to buy a birthday cake for Barb who was celebrating the big 5-0. While they were gone "some rascals" put up signs both in Creston and at the Wright residence announcing to the world that Barb was now "over the hill".

Delmas Barker, a/k/a Little Man, was visiting in Creston looking after his summer home and checking on his oil and gas interests. However, it was reported that he spent most of his time picking flowers for two ladies.

The USDA's ladybugs (Asiatic beetles) have started to invade local residences to spend the winter. The bureaucrats in Washington who turned them loose should be made clean and sweep them all up and send them back to China.

Wilbur Schenerlein, Jane & Nancy Engelke attended the Miss W. Va. USA pageant at Flatwoods over the weekend. Jessica Wedge was the winner.

The price of gasoline in Parkersburg fell to $2.40 while the price of local Penn grade crude over the weekend was $57.50/bbl.

The Loudins spent some time tent camping at their place on the West Fork.

The government decreed fast time has come to an end again and internal biological clocks have to, once more, readjust.
