Calhoun moved up to sixth place in the WVSSAC ratings released Monday.

The Red Devils have a rating of 8.44 moving them ahead of St. Marys (8.38) heading into Friday night's game against the Blue Devils at Mount Zion.

Williamstown continues to hold onto the top spot in Class A with a rating of 11.11, slightly better than second-rated Greenbrier West (11.00).

Buffalo of Putnam is third with South Harrison fourth and Parkersburg Catholic fifth.

Tygart's Valley is eighth followed by Man, Pocahontas County, Clay-Battelle, Weirton Madonna, Midland Trail, Wheeling Central and Montcalm rounding out the top 16.

If Calhoun beat St. Marys Friday night it could be rated anywhere from sixth to fourth depending on the outcome of some games.

The most likely scenario, however, has Calhoun slipping into fourth place by a narrow margin over South Harrison.

For that to happen Williamstown would have to beat Parkersburg Catholic, knocking the Crusaders out of fifth place, and some teams that Calhoun beat would have to win.

If Calhoun beats St. Marys it would have 90 points for a rating of 9.0. South Harrison, which has completed its season, currently has 89 points but is guaranteed to get one bonus point since two teams it beat play each other.

South Harrison should get another bonus point from the Richwood-Gilmer game since it beat Richwood. If Gilmer were to pull off the upset, however, Calhoun would get the bonus point instead to move ahead of South Harrison and virtually render all other games meaningless.

However, should Richwood win as expected, South Harrison would have 91 points awaiting the result of three other games for bonus points.

All three teams South Harrison needs to win - Valley-Wetzel, Bishop Donahue and Paden City - are underdogs in those games.

Calhoun needs to get bonus points from five teams it has already beaten. If two of the beaten foes win that would give the Red Devils enough points to put it ahead of South Harrison, 92-91.

The Red Devils need Roane to beat Sherman, Clay to beat Sissonville, Wahama to beat Moorefield, Wirt to beat Guyan Valley and Doddridge to beat Clarksburg Notre Dame to get bonus points. Roane, Clay and Wahama should win. If they do the Red Devils, assuming they beat St. Marys, will have 93 points minimum and probably fourth place in the final ratings and at least one home game in the playoffs.

However, if the Red Devils were to lose, then they would still be in the playoffs but on the road somewhere.

If the Red Devils were to lose they would fall to anywhere from 9th-13th place depending on bonus points.

The last time Calhoun made the playoffs was 1983 when it lost a first round game to Grafton.
