The Lord blessed us with Velma Pursley for 91 years. Velma was born October 1, 1909 in
Spencer, West Virginia. He called her home to be with Him on Wednesday, June 20, 2001.
Velma was a loving inspiration to her family and all who knew her. Velma retired in 1975 from
Kellwood Company in Spencer. She remained active as a foster grandmother, with her work
with the Committee on Aging and was an activity director at the Miletree Health Care Center,
Spencer. She was a long time active member of the Egypt United Methodist Church until she
moved to Ohio to live with her daughter.
She was preceded in passing from this world by her parents, Charles and Elizabeth Barnhouse
Somerville and her husband, Oral Pursley.
She is survived by a sister, Eula Lobb of Greensburg, Kentucky; a daughter and son-in-law,
Madge and Francis Gainer of Norton, Ohio; two sons and daughters-in-law, Roy and Rosalie
Pursley of Grantsville, WV and James and Virginia Pursley of Spencer, WV; five grandchildren;
seven great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren and three step granddaughters.
Service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 23, 2001 at the Egypt United Methodist Church with
Reverend Danny Whited officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Visiting hours are
7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Friday at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer and one hour prior to
service at the church. |
