Already assured a berth in the Class A playoffs, Calhoun now has the
opportunity to get at least one home playoff game.
All it takes for the seventh-ranked Red Devils is to beat Braxton and St.
Marys in their last two games.
Calhoun, 7-1, has a rating of 8.13. The Red Devils trail future opponent St.
Marys by less than a point. The Blue Devils have a rating of 8.38 on 67
points. Calhoun has 65 points.
Williamstown leads the way with an 11.00 rating. The Yellowjackets handed
the Red Devils and St. Marys their only loss of the season.
Greenbrier West is second, followed by Buffalo of Putnam, South Harrison and
Parkersburg Catholic.
St. Marys is sixth, Calhoun seventh, Hamlin eighth, Tygart's Valley ninth
and Wheeling Central Catholic 10th. The rest of the top 16 (the top 16 teams
make the playoffs) includes Pocahontas County, Man, Midland Trail, Madonna,
Clay-Battelle and Gilbert.
Should Calhoun win out it should finish no lower than fifth.
The Red Devils
could finish as high as fourth depending on how teams South Harrison has
beaten does the rest of the way.
But all that is conjecture and is very dependent on how the Red Devils do in
their last two games.
A loss in either would leave the Red Devils in the
playoffs but probably on the road through the playoffs.
One member of the Red Devils has also moved onto a prestigious list - the
Charleston Gazette's Kennedy Watch.
Tailback Paul Goodrich is on the list, which highlights serious candidates
for the Kennedy Award, the state's top football award.
Thus far this season
Goodrich has carried the ball 185 times for 1,604 yards and 23 touchdowns.
He had 26 carries for 239 yards and three touchdowns in the Red Devils' 33-6
win over Wirt County last Friday night.
Calhoun plays at Braxton County Friday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
