Downtown has food, crafts and a midway

This is Black Walnut Festival week -the 51st edition.

The exciting four-day event features the Grand Parade beginning at noon on Saturday, with Major General Allen E. Tackett, AG of the WV National Guard, the Parade Marshal.

Besides the street carnival, concessions and exhibits, there will be a Kid's Day Parade, Nut Run and Walk, Art and Photography Show, Quilt and Antique Show, homemade crafts, fireman's competition, and Walnut bake-off.

There is a large agricultural exhibit, flower show, 4-H and FFA livestock sale, chainsaw artist, band and majorette competition, gospel sing and lots of live music on the downtown stage.

The musical group ShhhBang will perform at the queen's coronation on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Roane Co. High. Tickets are $3.

The Calhoun Red Devils will faced-off with the Roane Raiders Thursday evening in the Black Walnut Bowl. Calhoun defeated Roane 17-14.
